MATH IS YOUR FRIEND!

I,m Cat, a 1-on-1 math tutor based in NYC with 16+ years and over 12,000 hours of experience. I,d love to show you or your kid how cool and fun math actually is! Contact me today to get started.

When a math topic seems way above your head and the path to it looks insurmountable, maybe you just need a gentler way to get there.

Math doesn,t have to produce feelings of inadequacy. It doesn,t have to be boring or repetitive, either. Math is a universe of interconnected ideas, and it,s yours to explore. Once you internalize that this universe is a safe place, even a challenging new topic can start to look like an exciting adventure.

I take pride in helping my students build confidence and grow their math literacy. With over 12,000 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience, I have learned how to guide students step by step so that the ideas “click.” Every learner is unique—everyone has their own rhythm, their own favorite thinking tools, their own preference for working independently or collaborating with others. It should come as no surprise that there,s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to helping students absorb new material.

I,ve worked with all types: discouraged students who give up quickly when it comes to problem solving, embarrassed students who have fallen into the habit of hiding the gaps in their foundational knowledge, strong students who work hard but need one-on-one review when the material moves too fast, eager students who can demonstrate incredible mathematical talent but don,t know how to channel it, and adults who are returning to math after years or even decades away. I,ve covered most subjects: calculus, algebra 1, algebra 2, prealgebra, precalculus, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, elementary school math, and more. (See my full list of subjects here.) In all cases, I take a patient, personalized approach, adapting my teaching methods to the student,s needs and goals and moving at their pace.

In my sixteen years of experience, I have seen, again and again, what students can do with the help of a dedicated one-on-one tutor. On top of mastering particular skills, they learn to ask great questions, to prioritize understanding over memorization, to tolerate temporary confusion, and to persevere through hard problems. Best of all, negative perceptions of mathematics that come from years of bad experiences can melt away. Typically, within four to six weeks, the focused work we do in our sessions translates to higher grades, an improved work ethic, and a newfound sense of mathematical autonomy.
